Promoting Original Work
in Assignments using Turnitin
As educators, we know that integrity of student work is essential. When students engage authentically with course materials, they develop critical thinking and analytical skills essential for their future careers and personal development. We want to help guide our students toward understanding the value of creating original work, a work that is the fruit of their own thoughtful effort.

One practical tool that can be used to assist with this process in UPH is Turnitin. Turnitin effectively supports lecturers by identifying plagiarism and promoting originality in student submissions. By integrating Turnitin into our evaluation processes, we reinforce our collective commitment to integrity, ensuring that the academic achievements of our students remain genuine and meaningful.

In UPH, Turnitin can be enabled for the assignment, forum, workshop, and quiz. However, currently the usual Turnitin feature for assignment in Moodle is still having issues due to a problem in updating the plugin. We expect this issue will be solved in the upcoming semester, so for this semester, if the lecturers want to use Turnitin originality check in your assignment, please kindly use Turnitin Assignment 2.
We understand that Turnitin is just a tool to help with this process, and it does not guarantee our students will not find a way to bypass this system. What is more important for us who work in education is to help our students see the benefit of doing assignments (and struggle with the difficulties) on their own, and let the process help them grow and be prepared for the real world.
