Pathfinder and Education
Resources Accessibility

Navigating unlimited research resources to find quality information is a challenging task, especially in the context of research. Access to AVR (Accurate, Valid, and Relevant) information is crucial in producing quality and accountable knowledge. Pathfinder supports researchers in obtaining curated research information. Thus, researchers can easily navigate and filter information based on their needs.

What is a Pathfinder?

Pathfinder is a tool or guide developed to assist library users in navigating resources related to a specific topic or subject area. Pathfinders simplify the research process for users by providing a starting point for research on a particular subject and providing guidance for unfamiliar users or those navigating a complex information landscape (Lee & Lowe, 2018; Dahl, 2001).

These guides are designed to help users to efficiently locate relevant materials, such as books, articles, databases, and other resources in the library collection that have been curated and tailored to their information needs (Lee & Lowe, 2018; Dunsmore, 2002).

How to Use Pathfinder 4.0

As one of the support units at Universitas Pelita Harapan, One UPH Library provides a pathfinder that can be accessed by all lecturers and students anytime and anywhere (using internet access). Here is how to do it:

1. Go to the One UPH Library website at library.uph.edu and select your location.

2. Scroll down and search in the “Search Everything” field.

3. Sign in using your UPH email by clicking “UPH Email Sign In”.

Next, the search engine will provide various types of collections that can be accessed by UPH lecturers and students in the form of books, electronic books, journal articles, proceedings, magazines and also videos that come from catalogs (which are physically available in the library), and databases subscribed by One UPH Library as well as databases from open sources (Open Access).

The search results page will display several things such as:

1. Filters – To limit search results by collection type, year of publication, subject, online availability and more.

2. Research Starter – A suggested collection for starting research on a searchable subject, usually containing definitions and other essentials on the topic.

3. Search Results – Different types of collections on the searched topic that you can physically access and download or access online.

4. My Dashboard & Research Tools – Several personalization features and preferences to help you with your research such as your saved collections past searches, concept map, list of UPH subscribed publications and more.

Use Pathfinder 4.0 to improve your academic research and writing.
