Regulation of GenAI Usage
in Universitas Pelita Harapan
As Artificial Intelligence continues to reshape the landscape of education and work, Universitas Pelita Harapan is proud to introduce our official Regulation on the Use of Generative AI (GenAI).
At UPH, we do not view AI as a threat to be feared, but as a tool to be managed wisely. Our approach is grounded in our Christian worldview, which means that technology should empower us to manage God’s creation, but it must never replace the critical thinking and moral responsibility that belongs to humans as the Imago Dei (Image of God). To use AI responsibly in UPH, we have launched the regulation document about the use of GenAI in UPH. As a summary, here is what you can expect going forward in your classes.
1. “Traffic Light” System for Assignments
Going forward, for every assignment or exam, the use of GenAI will fall into one of three categories, which will be clearly stated in the Syllabus (RPS) and assignment instructions:
1. Forbidden: No GenAI allowed (e.g., for closed-book exams or fundamental skill building).
2. Limited: GenAI is allowed only for specific tasks (e.g., brainstorming ideas, but not writing the draft).
3. Allowed: You may use GenAI freely to support your work.
Note for students: Always check the rules for each specific assignment. If you are unsure, ask your lecturer!
2. Transparency is Mandatory
If you use GenAI in an assignment where it is permitted, you must be transparent about it, by using the disclosure form (link to the form given below). You will need to list the tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini), the prompt, and a link to the chat if available.
If the assignment is in the form of a pdf, please merge the disclosure form and submit it along your assignment. If your assignment is in different form, please upload the disclosure form in the place specified by the lecturer. A summary for the usage of the disclosure form can be seen in the chart below:
3. Using AI Detection and Grading
Knowing the limitation of AI Detectors, a student will not be proven as cheating based only on an AI detector’s result. If a lecturer suspects that a student was cheating or using AI when it is not allowed, the lecturer may ask for further clarification or proof of work progress from the student.
About AI Grading: While AI can help check basic things such as grammar, full automation of grading is prohibited. If an AI grader is used by the lecturer, the lecturer must verify and approve the grades.
4 .Data Privacy
Please kindly remember that uploading confidential UPH data, financial records, or private personal data (names, IDs, health info) into public GenAI tools is not allowed. If you must use data, ensure all personal identifiers (name, NIK, etc.) are removed or anonymized first.
Overview
We believe this regulation balances innovation with integrity. We encourage lecturers to experiment with new teaching methods and students to not let AI usage replace your thinking and reasoning capabilities that God has given us. Let us use technology to glorify God and serve others responsibly!
