Microcredential Workshop

Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), in collaboration with Pelita Learning Hub (PLH), held a Microcredential workshop on Wednesday, March 21, 2024. As the world undergoes rapid technological advancements and job market shifts, the field of education is not immune to change. In this era of lifelong learning and skill adaptation, educators play a pivotal role in shaping the future of learning.

Microcredentials are small courses in a specific area of study, focusing on upskilling and reskilling in short timeframes to meet the needs of employers and industry. Microcredentials are recently rising because they offer a more personalized, on-demand learning experience, appealing to workers or learners who are required to learn specific skills, apply them on the job, and immediately have a credential to show for their effort. They are defined in Permendikbud number 53 of 2023, Article 42, as one of the learning methods that promote knowledge, skills, and competence gain. Unlike traditional professional development courses or programs, microcredentials emphasize personalized, accessible, affordable, flexible, and technology-enhanced learning experiences.

This Microcredentials Workshop shares the importance of staying ahead of the curve in an educational landscape that is constantly evolving. By offering educators the opportunity to delve into microcredentials, bite-sized learning programs that focus on specific skills or competencies, this workshop empowers lecturers to adapt to the changing needs of students and the demands of the modern workforce. Lecturers have the freedom to select high-demand topics that align with their professional goals, teaching objectives, and areas of expertise. With the flexibility to complete these credentials at their own pace, lecturers can integrate learning into their busy schedules without disrupting their teaching responsibilities.

The Center for Teaching and Learning provides a series of Microcredential course development assistance to lecturers. Starting from topic discussion, proposal submission, video taping, reading material, assignment, forum, assessment, and master course designing, this collaboration intends to produce high-quality short courses that are expected to help learners or workers meet their learning or organizational objectives. To delve further into the material related to Microcredential, please access the materials and video documentation from the “Microcredential Workshop” below:

By embracing microcredentials as a means of professional development, educators are equipped with the tools and resources necessary to stay relevant in today’s dynamic landscape. As we continue to navigate the ever-changing terrain of education, initiatives like these serve as beacons of innovation, ensuring that educators remain empowered to facilitate meaningful learning experiences that prepare individuals for success in an increasingly competitive world.
